A lluvia is exactly what you’d expect when you think of the Cape Winelands; grape-vine covered hills, cosy wine tastings, leisurely restaurant lunches overlooking the vineyards.

Beyond the tasting lounge and the typical, there is so much more to discover. From epic mountain biking rides and hiking trails to fishing and golfing, Alluvia and its surrounds offer a dizzying suite of outdoor adventures and activities.

Here are our top 7 activities at Alluvia:

1. Mountain Biking

If the thought of mountain biking in scenic surroundings gets your heart racing, you’re in for a treat. Alluvia is located in a ‘mountain biking mecca’ and is the gateway to a world of biking adventure.  Tackle our private 4km dirt track as a prequel to your escapade. Thereafter, head to the thrilling Banhoek Conservatory where avid cyclists can take on over 70kms of trails, many of them single track. There are also spectacular trails for both beginners and experts at nearby Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, Boschendal Wine Estate and Delvera farm.

2. Road Cycling

If road cycling is more your thing, simply ride out of the farm and head down the famous Helshoogte Pass, one of the world’s most beautiful mountain passes. The picturesque winding road connects the historic town of Stellenbosch to the culinary capital of South Africa, Franschhoek. Explore the town centre or stop over at neighbouring wine farms for breakfast, lunch or both.

3. Hiking

Lace up your hiking books, the mountains are calling! Alluvia is surrounded by lyrical landscapes and heart stopping beauty and there is no better way to explore the regions natural phenomena than by foot. From relaxed walking trails through Alluvia’s vineyards to the steep mountain slopes and crests of the Panorama trail in Jonkershoek Reserve, Stellenbosch hikes rewards your efforts with indigenous fynbos vegetation and views as far as the eye can see. Whats better, you don’t need to be a mountaineer to do it.

4. Freshwater Fishing

Get hooked on serenity! Fishing may not be synonymous with the Winelands, but the serene setting will get any angler excited. There is something truly relaxing about surrounding yourself with nature as you cast a rod in a bountiful dam and gaze towards the mountains. Bring the younger anglers with you to enjoy an afternoon of freshwater fishing for bass, tilapia or the elusive grass carp. We’ll provide you with all the tools you’ll need to reel in your prized catch, a treasured memory for years to come.

5. Golf

Undoubtedly a golfers’ paradise, the Cape Winelands boasts several world class golf courses within a short distance of Alluvia, including world renowned Stellenbosch Golf Club and De Zalze Golf Club. At the estate, hone your swing with our very own golf green, featuring three different T-boxes and a sand bunker.

6.  Fitness and training

Small in stature, but mighty in spirit, Alluvia’s fitness room is a hub for all things active. Featuring state-of-the-art equipment, enjoy an early morning or late afternoon workout to energizing beats. Later, relax sore muscles at the adjacent spa and embrace a sense of total wellbeing.

7.  Wine Tasting Tours

Last, but certainly not least, no trip to Alluvia would be complete without a wine tour. Organised through our partners, explore some of the world’s most celebrated wine farms on a tailored wine tasting tour. Together with a knowledgeable guide, you’ll discover the world renowned wine farms, viticulture and Cape Dutch history that make up this fascinating region. We’ll raise a glass to that!

    Good Day,

My wife and I stayed at Alluvia Saturday 29 July 2023. Will start of by saying that I was a bit disappointed as my booking was somehow messed up and I did not get to stay in the Superior Suite (Oakleaf 2) that I booked online, as the fireplace was the main attraction(highlight).

I must however commend the reception Host (Tyler) and the housekeeping lady on the professionalism and the fact that they did everything in their power to make my stay at Alluvia a good experience.

Also note that the suite that I stayed in (Oakleaf 3) was equally as beautiful as Oakleaf 2 and the quality of the room was immaculate.
