Alluvia Wins at the Decanter World Wine AwardsAlluvia’s ilka Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 brought home a prestigious medal at The Decanter World Wine Awards on the 14th of May. The Decanter Awards is the world’s largest wine competition, recognising the crème de la crème of wines.
The Cabernet Sauvignon scored in the region of 18.4/20 which is considered “very good to excellent”. This is the second vintage in a row to achieve such an esteemed honour, Alluvia’s ilka Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 received the same recognition in 2009.
Both Cabernet Sauvignons have become very popular in the upmarket Chinese store Lotus and have been described as the Chateaux Lafite of South Africa by high profile Chinese officials.
The vintage is one of the most exclusive Cabernet Sauvignons in the country and is only available to private individuals who appreciate serious wine. The wine is not found on any shelves in South Africa.
Andrew Harris, Alluvia’s Wine Business Manager, comments: “All of us at Alluvia are very proud of this achievement. The ilka Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 is an award winning wine with its richness of flavours and velvety elegance. Smart wine buyers and top restaurants will be pleased to know there are still a few cases available before we move on to the next vintage!” ilka Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and sandie Straw Wine 2009 were also recommended by judges and received scores in the region of 15.4/20.
