Hiking In the Cape Winelands
The Cape Winelands offers lush valleys framed by rugged mountain ranges. This provides a myriad of adventures available for the professional or novice hiker.
The valley floors offer relaxed walks among the vineyards while the mountain slopes and crests offer a more challenging series of hikes through the Winelands indigenous fynbos vegetation.
Many of our neighbouring wine farms in Stellenbosch and Franchhoek offer pleasant walks, meandering through the valleys and lower slopes, these walks can be combined with a catered picnic or a stop at local village restaurants for a leisurely lunch.
Large tracts of the Stellenbosch and Franchhoek winelands are given over to nature reserves, and home to numerous trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Trails can range from one or two hour walks, to three days mammoth excursions through valley’s and over mountain passes.
Some of our local nature reserves that have hiking trails:
- Limietberg Nature Reserve
- Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve
- The Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area
- The Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve
- The Kogelberg Nature Reserve
