Fly fishing
Rainbow Trout and Bass were introduced onto Alluvia’s estate dam in 2005 and are fished for on a catch and release basis. The fish are spirited, and the fact that they come freely to the dry fly sets the place apart. We also offer on site fly fishing tuition to novices or those wanting to improve their technique. Fly fishing in the Stellenbosch winelands region of South Africa is primarily for Trout in the clear, freestone mountain streams and in a number of spectacular lakes. The Western Cape has a Mediterranean climate with clear warm summer days and mild winters, making for ideal fishing conditions, the majority of the fishing is centred around the towns of Stellenbosch, Worcester, Wellington and Ceres, in most lakes and some rivers, alongside the Trout are healthy populations of Bass and Bluegill. The Winelands route region has numerous fast, clear running streams populated by wild, Rainbow and Brown Trout. The fynbos and mountain scenery will impress the senses and soothe the soul. The varied fishing conditions ranging from weeded chalk streams, deep flowing river environments and still water dams, provide opportunities for both the novice and the experienced fly fisherman. |
